Louisville Glassworks

 The Snead Building, situated at 815 W. Market St., serves as a versatile establishment housing two operational glass studios, namely the Walk-In Workshop and tours available by appointment. Between 1850 and 1901, Louisville witnessed the operation of at least seven distinct glass manufacturing factories. Among these, six specialized in the production of utilitarian bottles, while the remaining one focused on crafting window and plate glass. In 1850, the inaugural glass bottle and jar-making enterprise emerged under the name "Kentucky Glass Works," which by 1855 had transitioned to "Louisville Glass Works," as evident on some of their embossed whiskey flasks from the 1850s and 1860s. However, this firm ceased operations in 1873 and is unrelated to the former glassmaking business known as "Louisville Glassworks."
